Sound in the Silence Application From

“Warsaw passed through here.” This phrase, found on a wall near the railway in Pruszków, is one of the few visible reminders of a powerful yet often overlooked chapter in World War II history. In 2025, the international youth project Sound in the Silence will bring this story back to life.

At the heart of this year’s edition lies the former transit camp Dulag 121, where between 390,000 and 650,000 civilians from Warsaw were held after the Warsaw Uprising in 1944. Their stories—often forgotten or untold—will become the foundation for a powerful week of reflection, expression, and artistic collaboration.

About the Project

Sound in the Silence is an intercultural remembrance program where high school students work with professional artists to explore difficult histories through art. Past editions have taken place in places like Auschwitz-Birkenau, Neuengamme, Kaunas, and Jasenovac.

In Pruszków, students will uncover the hidden memories of Dulag 121 through dance, music, creative writing, and visual arts. Together with artists like Dan Wolf, Kat Rampackova, and Sean Palmer, they will reflect on what it means to remember, resist, and reclaim forgotten voices.

Why It Matters

Most of the former camp buildings are now industrial sites. Yet the traces remain—and so do the questions. What was it like to be displaced? To lose your home and face an uncertain future?

Through a mix of artistic workshops, site visits, and archival research, participants will build a bridge between the past and their present, creating a space where history can be felt and understood on a personal level.

Meanwhile, accompanying teachers will join dedicated workshops offering new tools and insights for teaching complex histories in the classroom.

Who Can Apply?

Teachers of high school students are invited to apply via the online form by 4 May 2025. Students will be selected by the organizers based on applications submitted by their teachers.
