This webinar will be a unique opportunity to meet Eva Paddock, a Holocaust survivor who, as a young girl, fled from Prague to the United Kingdom on one of the Kindertransport initiatives organised by Nicolas Winton – a rescue initiative that brought Jewish children to safety in Britain.

Date: 24 March 2026
Time: 17:00 (CET), 16:00 (UK and Ireland)
Language: English
Hosts: Barbara Walshe and Urszula Bijoś (ENRS)

Does she feel Czech, Jewish or British? What matters most to her today? What did the process of discovering her identity and family history look like?

Eva Paddock has long been deeply involved in education. As a former teacher, she has met with dozens of student groups over the years. Drawing on her rich experience, she will share her reflections and perspective on Holocaust education.

During the webinar, participants will:
• listen to Eva’s story and reflections and have the opportunity to ask their own questions;
• learn what the Kindertransport was, the scale and course of the operation, and what it tells us about the nature and possibilities of rescuing Jews during the Holocaust;
• receive access to free teaching resources, enabling you to present Eva’s story to your students and audiences through a timeline, film, poems, photographs and classroom activities.

Outcome for your practice: By exploring both a personal story and the wider context of how Jews tried to escape the Holocaust and were rescued, students will gain a deeper understanding of history, build empathy, and connect with this message of hope.

This webinar will be recorded. If you register, you will receive an email with the recording afterward.

The exhibition: Eva’s story is one of those presented in the exhibition “Between Life and Death. Stories of Rescue during the Holocaust”, which will be shown in 2026 in various locations across the UK, as well as in an online exhibition catalogue.
