Why Can Disinformation/Manipulation of History be Dangerous?
The history of 20th-century Europe with its revolutions, wars and atrocities has created a great many myths and distortions in popular memory. This is true in particular of the outbreak and course of the Second World War and its aftermath. The public memory of past events becomes a problem only when it is manipulated for present political or social purposes. The distortions of the truth have to be contested to ensure that past history is not abused for the wrong reasons.
