20 January: Meeting of the ‘Wannsee Conference’

Reinhard Heydrich gathers 15 senior officials of Nazi Germany. The meeting’s aim is to finalise decisions about organising the killing of the European Jews. The in-principle resolution had already been made in 1941 for what is referred to as the ‘Final Solution’. Participants determine the timing of mass killings with a cold efficiency, clarifying responsibilities and logistical issues.
