The first Congress of Slovak writers, 31 May – 1 June 1936

The first Congress of Slovak Writers demonstrated the fast development and professional maturing of Slovak literary culture in interwar Czechoslovakia. The first joint meeting of Slovak writers from various literary streams documents their general rejection of standpoints concerning Czechoslovakism. But all unambiguously declared that they belonged to a joint country, and that they were jointly responsible for its fate. They also condemned the increasing international attacks on democratic values.
