Apponyi´s school laws
The laws on the education of young people in Hungarian territories in 1907 prepared the means by which Hungarian culture was to become a link binding Slovaks to the unified state. Curriculums were prepared in such a way as to prevent the teaching of the Slovak language. The laws almost completely destroyed the Slovak national educational system, which was maintained through (non-state) municipal and church schools. The act providing free teaching in state schools with Hungarian as the language taught removed the opportunity of deriving income from school taxes.
