Hungary Signs the Treaty of Trianon
According to the peace agreement signed in the Trianon Palace in Versailles, two-thirds of Hungary’s historical territory was annexed to neighbouring nations; one-third of all Hungarians—more than three million people—subsequently found themselves under foreign control. Pressed between its new borders, Hungary became a nation state whose population was ninety-two percent Hungarian, yet still found itself existing in a peace that sparked serious conflicts between Hungary and its neighbouring nations.
