Romania’s participation to the Balkan Wars

As a result of Bulgaria starting the Second Balkan War, on 29 June 1913, Romania decided to intervene militarily against Bulgaria and Romanian troops headed for Sofia. After Bulgaria acknowledged defeat a peace treaty was signed in Bucharest without the interference of the great powers, which indicated the degree of growth in Romania’s international prestige, leading to its gain of Cadrilater (two counties which belonged to Bulgaria in Southern Dobruja), thus breaking ranks with the Triple Alliance.
