First year of the international Biennial of Illustration Bratislava

The first year of the competitive international display of authors, illustrations and books for children, which took place under the auspices of UNESCO, indicated that cultural life was developing in Slovakia even under its strict cultural policy. Young generations of artists overcame the schematism of mandatory ‘socialistic realism.’ In the mid-1960s several popular international events were established in Slovakia in various areas of artistic life.
