“In Between?” is a unique summer school organised by the European Network Remembrance and Solidarity (ENRS) that invites young people to explore the cultural and historical landscapes of Europe’s border regions. This year, the programme takes place in Görlitz–Zgorzelec, a symbolic "European City" on the German–Polish border — a site where histories intertwine and the legacy of the 20th century still echoes today. Through immersive, on-the-ground learning, participants will investigate how local identities are shaped by past conflicts, shifting borders, and migration. The outcome? A collaborative podcast episode that gives voice to the region’s complex memory — available on Spotify and Simplecast.

What will you do?

Participants will:

  • Take part in online preparatory sessions in July 2025 to gain historical and cultural context;

  • Receive expert training in oral history methods, landscape interpretation, and podcast storytelling;

  • Conduct interviews and explore local sites during a 10-day visit to Görlitz–Zgorzelec;

  • Collaboratively produce a new episode of the “In Between?” podcast series.

You’ll uncover untold stories, walk and cycle through historical landscapes, and reflect on the ties between memory, identity, and European cooperation.

Why Görlitz–Zgorzelec?

Once a single city, Görlitz–Zgorzelec was divided after World War II, with the Neisse River marking the new border. Today, the twin towns stand as a living example of post-Cold War reconciliation and cross-border collaboration — making them the perfect setting to explore Europe’s layered histories.
