Learning and Teaching Through WW2 Family Histories

Learning and Teaching Through WW2 Family Histories

This interdisciplinary lesson plan for 14–16-year-olds explores World War II through family stories, creative writing, and digital mapping. Students interview grandparents or elderly acquaintances about wartime experiences, write reflective poems on war and peace, and upload their stories to an interactive Padlet map.

The project develops historical empathy, storytelling skills, historical and digital literacy while connecting personal narratives to global history. It encourages intergenerational learning, emotional reflection, and collaborative work, integrating subjects like history, literature, geography, and language. The lesson concludes with group reflection, helping students understand the impact of war on families and society.
